Throwing Knives
Throwing knives are a very specialized type of knife.
They are often fairly small, not exceeding a six inch blade, and are
lacking a handle. They are made of one piece of metal and only sharpened
on one side. The other side it used by the thrower for safe handling
or the knife. They are balanced so they spin very smoothly and can be
thrown very accurately.
Throwing knives are most often used for entertainment and are also
used for sport but rarely combat. A skilled thrower propels the knife
into a target, typically spinning with a calm assistant attached for
added effect. Throw in a blindfold on the thrower and the audience will
really be entertained.
The sharpness of throwing knives is not a major concern. A dull knife
is safer for the thrower and the point will stick into the target if
it is struck anyway so the blades are rarely sharpened. Balance and
weight are the major concerns for accurately throwing knives. A skilled
thrower can hit a target over 60 feet away, throw around corners and
on the run accurately.
